Marnus Labuschagne Left Out from Australian ODI Lineup Against Team India
The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from Australia's three-match ODI series facing India, as high-performing Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw earning a shock inclusion.
Performance Issues Result in Omission
Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the one-day international side following being dismissed for one in his two batting efforts during the top-end series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a top score of forty-seven in his previous ten ODI batting appearances.
The batsman has featured in 68 ODIs and amassed 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64, but will now continue to press his claims a return to the Test side in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on November 21.
Surprise Inclusion and Team Updates
Recent performances suggest of a resurgence with a score of 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw also hit a century for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.
Renshaw could to make his white-ball international debut in the upcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.
Renshaw has played 14 Tests with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a return to the Test team as Australia seek a fix to their opening batting issues.
Pace Returns and Injury Updates
Fast bowler Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after taking a break since excelling for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.
BBL performer Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the lead up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.
Skipper Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he works to regain fitness from a back injury in time to lead Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.
Team Announcement Approach and Schedule
Australia have selected a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-game T20 series due to a wrist problem sustained in New Zealand.
Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after hitting a ton in the final game against New Zealand to secure a series clean sweep last week.
“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be player management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an crucial phase in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready specific players for the Test series ahead.”
Australia’s three-game ODI series against India begins on October 19 in Perth, before the opponents play five T20s from 29 October.
